FAQ

Purchase of Nanocyl products

I do not want to purchase NC7000™ in powder. Which other options does Nanocyl offer?

Nanocyl has developed masterbatches or concentrates of different materials containing NC7000™ such as different thermoplastics (PLASTICYL™), water dispersions (AQUACYL™), epoxy resins (EPOCYL™) and other matrices. Those products are easily diluted and/or incorporated in your material formulation.

For more details, we invite you check the section products or to contact us (click on “Talk to an Expert”, form COMMERCIAL).

What kind of packaging and shipping does Nanocyl offer?

Nanocyl offers different types of packaging and shipping offers from a single pallet to 40’’ container. Packaging and shipping offers are different for each product family (NC7000™, PLASTICYL™, EPOCYL™, etc.).

For more details, we invite you to contact us (click on “Talk to an Expert”, form COMMERCIAL).

What is the price of Nanocyl® products?

Some people think that carbon nanotubes are still very expensive. This is true for singlewall carbon nanotubes but not anymore for NC7000™ multiwall carbon nanotubes. They are offering an outstanding competitive performance/price ratio compared to other conventional fillers.

Processing Nanocyl products/technical support

How can I integrate NC7000™ or other Nanocyl formulated products into my materials?

Nanocyl has developed various masterbatches or concentrates to ease the integration of NC7000™ in different matrices (thermoplastics, water, epoxy resins, rubbers, etc.).

Nanocyl formulated products can be diluted with blending equipment commonly used to incorporate additives into the host matrix (e.g. twin screw extruder for thermoplastics).

Direct compounding/blending of NC7000™ multiwall carbon nanotubes in powder form is also achieved with blending equipment commonly used to incorporate additives into the host matrix.

Do not hesitate to request for technical support if you have any questions how to process in the best way possible (click on “Talk to an Expert”, form TECHNICAL).

What are the important parameters to take into account during the conversion processes such as injection molding?

This depends on the polymer. The technical data sheet of PLASTICYL™ products provides first guidelines for injection molding.

If you want more information on injection molding or if you are converting pellets with other processes (extrusion, multilayer tubing, blow molding, etc.), ask for technical recommendation to our technical support team (click on “Talk to an Expert”, form TECHNICAL).

Can Nanocyl help me in the development of my project?

Our multidisciplinary technical team can help you develop your industrial CNT project, and support it from concept to trial. Indeed, along with our applications expertise, Nanocyl technical development center has a state-of-the-art laboratory, analytical equipments and testing facilities.

Explain your project to our technical support team in the section contact (click on “Talk to an Expert”, form TECHNICAL).

Safe use of Nanocyl products

Do you have toxicological data about NC7000™?

Since more than 10 years, Nanocyl HSE department invest substantially into multiwall carbon nanotubes NC7000™ research with independent institutes to demonstrate to the industry and the authorities a clear and objective benefit/risk situation. To this date, internal and external analysis and studies confirm the safety of using NC7000™ in commercial applications.

General information on carbon nanotubes

What is a carbon nanotube?

Carbon nanotubes are cylindrical particles made of carbon atoms covalently bonded in hexagonal shapes. Carbon nanotubes’ diameters can be as small as 1 nanometer and their length up to several centimeters. When composed of multiple concentric cylinders of carbon atoms, they are called multiwall carbon nanotubes. If made of only one cylindrical wall, they are called singlewall carbon nanotubes.

For more details, we invite you to read the technology section in the Expertise Center.

What are the intrinsic properties of a carbon nanotube?

A carbon nanotube is an outstanding material with intrinsic transport and mechanical properties. At the particle level, it is as electrically conductive as copper, five times stronger than steel, more thermally conductive than diamond and has a low density.

How carbon nanotubes improve properties of other materials (nanocomposites)?

In pratical terms, the van der Waals forces lead the carbon nanotubes to appear in µ-meter sized agglomerates because carbon nanotubes have a strong tendency to stick together. In order to avail their properties to the host matrices (thermoplastics, elastomers, water, etc.), carbon nanotubes need to be adequately disentangled/dispersed during processing. The optimum disentanglement/dispersion of carbon nanotubes is a key element to reach high performance nanocomposites.

Carbon nanotubes are ideal multifunctional carbon additives to improve materials’ performances.

For more details, we invite you to read the technology section in the Expertise Center.

What are the potential applications for carbon nanotubes?

Nanocomposites containing carbon nanotubes push materials to new limits of performances allowing more sustainable solutions to emerge in different markets: transportation (automobile, aeronautics, maritime), energy (lithium-ion batteries, flow batteries and super-capacitors), electronics (electronic packaging, EMI shielding), sport goods and industrial solutions. This is a non-exhaustive list of markets since new applications are regularly discovered.

For more details, we invite you to read the technology section in the Expertise Center.

What is the NC7000™ diameter/length? How are they measured?

NC7000™ has an average diameter of 9.5 nm and an average length of 1.5 µm (TEM measurements). Nevertheless, with action of van der Waals forces, NC7000™ have a tendency to cluster into µ-meter sized bundles or agglomerates.
