About the department
MWCNT are used as performance conductive agent in electrode structure of various Energy Storage applications. The Energy Storage Business Unit focuses on commercial and technical developments of CNT and CNT dispersions for all Energy Storage applications, including Lithium-ion batteries. Dispersing MWCNT in the carrier solvent before incorporation in the electrode formulation is a key step for technical and commercial success.
Your role and key responsibilities
- Based on the priorities and objectives defined with the BU manager, you are in charge of the product development, characterization and process improvement activities related to CNT liquid dispersions, including but not only for Lithium-ion battery applications.
- You conduct research and trials in the laboratory or at the pilot scale, to develop new formulations, new processes and implement practical solutions to known processing issues. You also coordinate and/or participate in demonstration or pilot trials externally.
- You report to the BU manager and make sound product and process improvement recommendations based on solid data and business rationale. You perform data analysis, interpretation, report-writing, and delivering presentations internally or externally with sound and timely recommendations;
- You support business development projects through direct interaction with customers to provide (online/on-site) technical assistance and resolution of customer issues.
- You work in collaboration with researchers and lab technicians to plan, coordinate and prioritize the development work. You contribute to lab technicians’ supervision and training for liquid dispersion related activities.
- You set up DoE’s and make on-the-floor decision based on the immediate outcomes of trials;
- You are responsible of various laboratory equipment (milling equipment, rheometer, etc.).
The profile we are looking for
- You have a Master/Ph.D degree in material science, chemical engineering or (electro)chemistry, with ideally >2 years of experience in the chemical and/or lithium-ion battery industry. Preferred candidate has a strong technical background in materials processing and characterization of materials (rheological properties, particle size distribution, etc.).
- Experience in liquid dispersions/nanofluids formulation & processing, knowledge of surfactants and dispersants, used in reference industries (Energy Storage, Coating, etc.), Li-ion battery electrode coating or electrochemical analysis is a strong asset;
- You are familiar with continuous process improvement (CPI) and Design of Experiment (DOE).
- You have a complete knowledge of MS office products (Word, Excel, Powerpoint).
- You demonstrate excellence in application of theories and principle of technical specialty, with
hands-on capability to set up experimental trials in the laboratory; - You are able to ask probing questions to understand product and market requirements and to
convey these customer technical requirements back to the internal organization in order to
develop an approach and to implement a project which will be successful; - You are able to work independently under general guidance and drive projects to completion;
you are well organized and have excellent planning skills. - You are a good communicator with the ability to present to and interface with different
departments (commercial, quality control and production) - You thrive on making a difference and display a high degree of self-motivation, maturity,
honesty and integrity; you are also a compassionate and true team player with strong
interpersonal skills - You foster a strong commitment to safety and overall environmental responsibility;
- You are fluent in English and French, both verbal and written;
- Ability to travel up to 20%, if necessary;
- No strict “nine-to-five” mentality (we work with the US, Europe and Asia).
